Suzanne, you got it, just a humor piece. This is poking fun at people who react violently against something based on vague information. It's also fictitious.

Of course the part about the KJV not being English . . . I really meant that. ; )

I have been assessing Bible translations with regard to gender issues and I have found that the TNIV does not change any language with reference to God. It does use gender accurate language and so once again we have a Bible in which the peacemakers shall be called the children of God. This is consistent with the KJV, Tyndale and Luther. Other language is also rendered in gender neutral language as in the New Living Translation and the NRSV.

With regards to verses relating to women, the TNIV most closely resembles the KJV and offers for women an unbiased and literal translation.

It is extremely distressing to find that the words of a few outspoken opponents can have such a wide spread effect.

I did something wrong with the Internet address of the TNIV Truth blog on my preceding post. The correct address should now appear with this comment.

“I read on a web site somewhere that the TNIV is trying to feminize God,” said Pastor Steggles. “That is simply unbiblical. We can’t have that, and I refuse to endorse any translation that attempts a gender change of God.”

I would totally agree with Pastor Steggles if it were true. But it is completely false. Even the scholars who criticize the TNIV recognize that God is presented in masculine terms just as strongly in the TNIV as in the NIV, ESV, and every other English Bible version.

It really would be helpful if you could issue a correction, so that this false Internet statement can be corrected.

You might want to read my latest post about how the TNIV can be used to teach male headship and the other things which are a part of complementarian doctrine. It's on our TNIV Truth blog which you can get to by clicking on my name.
